Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced today that Michael Brown, CEO of SouthCoast Wind Energy LLC was honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of an employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve. SouthCoast Wind employs several veterans including Lieutenant Commander (sel.) Daniel Hubbard, US Coast Guard (Reserve) who presently serves as General Counsel for the company.
According to Paul Zbikowski, ESGR Massachusetts Chair, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Mr. Brown was nominated for being highly supportive of the Reserve Service by his Reserve Component employee. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.”
“We couldn’t be prouder of Dan and his service with the Coast Guard and the Reserve,” Brown said, “It is very appropriate that an employee of SouthCoast Wind, a company dedicated to building the clean energy needed to help protect our seas, our nation and environment through safe and appropriate means would also be part of the Coast Guard.”
SouthCoast Wind is developing a federal offshore lease area located over 30 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 20 miles south of Nantucket. The project is a joint venture between Ocean Winds and Shell with the potential to generate over 2,000 MW of low cost clean energy which is enough to power a million homes.
As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America’s borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between employers and service members.
