Falmouth Road Race Runs to Another Successful Finish
Congratulations to all the runners, staff, and volunteers that participated in the Falmouth Road Race! We were proud to be a sponsor of the 49th running of the historic race that was held on August 15, 2021. During the Health and Fitness Expo, we were able to meet with many local residents and race participants and their friends and families. It was great to share news about SouthCoast Wind’s offshore wind energy project and engage in one-on-one discussions with visitors to our booth. Thank you to our staff volunteers who came into Town to share their expertise with stakeholders and enjoy scenic Falmouth!

We’re Off Again at the Mayflower Wind Cape Cod Marathon
Mayflower Wind is the Title Sponsor of the 2021 Cape Cod Marathon Weekend. This is the 44th running of the marathon, produced by the Falmouth Running Club (FRC), which will be held during the weekend of October 30-31 in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The event offers a full marathon, a marathon relay, a half marathon, 5k, 1-Miler, free Kids Fun Run and the Clam Chowdah Challenge that totals 39.3 miles over 2 days.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Falmouth Running Club for this historic and exciting event,” said Michael Brown, CEO of Mayflower Wind. “The Cape Cod Marathon has a long history of welcoming not only elite runners, but runners and families of all ages and abilities. The inclusiveness, FRC’s support of environmental and community initiatives, plus the beautiful coastal environment setting means this is sure to be a great event for participants and spectators alike.”

Passive House Groundbreaking with Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity
SouthCoast Wind is pleased to announce our partnership with the Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity (BBAHFH). On September 10th, BBAHFH will break ground on their latest property in Westport, the site of a soon-to-be “passive house” duplex, utilizing cutting edge energy-efficient technology and ecological design. Once complete, this home will offer affordable, comfortable, and environmentally responsible housing to low-income families in the Buzzards Bay area.
SouthCoast Wind is supporting this initiative through a commitment to match up to $50,000 in donations made toward this project.
We encourage you to contribute to this matched donation campaign. Your support will help local families have a home of their own.
Summer G&G Surveys Continue Data Collection
Multiple vessels are continuing to conduct geophysical & geotechnical (G&G) surveys within federal and state waters in Mount Hope Bay, Sakonnet River, and Rhode Island Sound. G&G surveys provide critical data about the seafloor and subsea conditions for evaluation in the project design and permitting process.
We post weekly updates to the survey area and vessel operating schedule on SouthCoast Wind’s Mariners page.
Recently we distributed safety flyers to marinas, yacht clubs, and other boating centers throughout the project area. The vessels GO Liberty and Westerly are using towed equipment and their maneuverability are significantly restricted. It is important for boaters to maintain a safe distance of at least 1 kilometer (0.5nm) from the GO Liberty and 500m (0.25nm) from the Westerly in order to avoid conflicts with the equipment.
Real Time Metocean Data Available
SouthCoast Wind has partnered with the Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems (NERACOOS) to share real-time weather and ocean data collected by the buoy for mariners and the scientific community to use. NERACOOS mission is to produce, integrate, and communicate high quality information that helps ensure safety, economic and environmental resilience, and sustainable use of the coastal ocean. SouthCoast Wind’s floating buoy data will help to support these efforts and help to inform other research efforts in the Atlantic region. Visit NERACOOS to view the data!
