SouthCoast Wind submits bid into historic tri-state offshore wind solicitation

In March 2024, SouthCoast Wind submitted bids to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island to deliver 1,200 megawatts of clean energy to the New England electric grid—enough to power more than 800,000 homes.

This is a critical step in New England’s path toward grid stability and decarbonization. New England’s need for electricity is growing to unprecedented levels. The following graphic from ISO-NE, New England’s grid operator, shows that even as we increase energy efficiency, our demand for electricity will grow significantly.

We must act now to ensure that we have enough clean electricity to see us through the coldest and hottest days. Offshore wind is also the cornerstone of New England’s decarbonization plans.

In developing its bid, the SouthCoast Wind team gathered insights and priorities from local and regional community leaders and citizens throughout the South Coast region. The result is a proposal that provides renewable energy and gives the states the power to deliver local benefits through a menu of state investments and activities that provide economic benefits.

Thank you to the many groups, individuals and organizations that supported our bid and/or have joined us as a partner.

Crossroads Rhode Island

In early May, SouthCoast Wind was proud to sponsor Crossroads’ 17th annual Women Helping Women fundraiser. This empowering event brought together hundreds of women in Rhode Island to raise funds for the 1,200 women who rely on Crossroads’ services.

Crossroads RI is the leading provider of housing and supportive services to those experiencing homelessness in Rhode Island. As part of their mission, Crossroads combats energy cost burdens by providing energy efficient housing and utility bill assistance to families in need. SouthCoast Wind looks forward to continuing to support low-income ratepayers in New England and we value Crossroads RI as a crucial partner on this journey.
